Autostrada Wolności
APM PRO implements elements of traffic management on A2 motorway
A2, Konin, Strykow, Polska
The Autostrada Wolności motorway, as the A2 motorway has been named, stretches from west to east, through the middle of Poland. It is a strategic transport route for both private individuals and transport companies.
In 2008, investment began on the Konin-Stryków section. The investment involved 103 kilometres of road and involved bringing it up to toll motorway standards. The investment included the design and execution of civil works, delivery of the necessary equipment and ensuring smooth operation of the systems.
In spring 2009, APM PRO started work on the implementation of some of the system components. This was an important task for APM PRO, aimed at ensuring efficient and above all safe and comfortable driving on the new toll section of the A2 motorway.
We were tasked with designing, supplying, installing, and integrating variable message signs, prism signs and vehicle weighing stations into the central system. Variable message signs located at road junctions are intended to inform drivers of the current traffic situation.
Working in close cooperation with the client, we carried out Poland’s first variable traffic organisation project of such complexity on seven junctions. We designed over 500 scenarios for controlling messages on variable message signs and boards. We also performed work related to the design and implementation of traffic diversion markings using prismatic signs (for the duration of diversion implementation).
The scope of the task included, among other things:
- Variable Message Signs – 75 units,
- prism signs – 14 units,
- communication servers with software – 2 units,
- weigh in motion system – WIM – 1 set.
Implementation period: March 2009 – August 2011.
